Dental Implant Myths Exposed

Posted on 1/6/2019 by Front Office
If you’re missing a tooth or multiple teeth, you’ve probably heard of dental implants and may even be considering one as a tooth-replacement option. Modern dental implants have completely revolutionized the industry, but many myths still surround them, making people second guess them even though they are often far superior to other tooth-replacement options. Today we'll discuss a few of those myths and uncover the truth.

Myth 1: Dental Implants Are Too Expensive

Although on the surface, dental implants do cost more than other tooth-replacement options, they are often the more affordable choice when you consider cost over time. Implants have a long lifespan, and they’re better for your long-term overall oral health.

Myth 2: Dental Implants Are Extremely Painful

Any dental work aside from teeth cleaning is often believed to be painful thanks to unrealistic and dramatized procedures shown in films and television. Modern methods are more efficient and less painful than ever, and anesthesia has come a long way over the years too. Most patients feel nothing during the surgery and have a normal recovery afterward similar to a wisdom tooth removal.

Myth 3: Dental Implants Require Special Maintenance and Care

This is a very common myth we hear in our office a lot. However, it’s absolutely false. Caring for dental implants is no different from caring for your natural teeth. In fact, they require less maintenance than the other common forms of tooth replacements available.

Myth 4: Dental Implants Look Fake

Modern dentistry has made incredible advances over the years. Implants are hands down the most natural-looking and natural-feeling way to replace a lost tooth or teeth. Their stability means you can eat, chew and speak without feeling a difference from your natural teeth.

If you have any questions about dental implants or myths you’d like debunked, or you’d like to schedule a consultation or appointment, call us today at 469-757-4433. Our offices are conveniently located in both Rockwall and Sulphur Springs, and we will be happy to help.
